Apple released iPad OS 3.2.2 in respect to patch jailbreakme exploit, at the moment no jailbreak available for iPad OS 3.2.2 Apple already stopped signing 3.2.1 restore files. That means you cannot restore any firmware other than 3.2.2 If you guys updated to 3.2.2 and wanna go back to OS 3.2.1 or lower, follow the following step by step guide to downgrade your iPad OS 3.2.2 to 3.2.1 or lower.
Note : This hack is eligible only for those peoples who saved their SHSH to Cydia Server before the release of OS 3.2.2 via Cydia “make my life easier” button. ![]()
The process is very simple all you have to do is to add Saurik’s Server address to your system hosts file. This trick make iTunes thinks it is talking to Apple, it is talking to Cydia instead while the restoring process. Doing this will allow iTunes to access signatures already stored by Cydia “on file” feature. In simple words this duplicates the functionality exposed by Apple’s signature server, except using “on file” results rather than live request.

- This process is only for those who saved their SHSH to Cydia Server already.
- Read the whole process two-three times before starting the process.

How to Edit and Save Hosts file in Windows
- Open Notepad with Administrative privileges by clicking Start, All Programs,Accessories, and then right-click Notepad and select to open as Administrator.
- Now that Notepad is open with Administrative privileges browse to (C:WindowsSystem32driversetc) in Notepad and open the hosts file, and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com <————
Now you navigate to files menu and save the hosts file. By doing this you changed the communication server from Apple to Sauriks Server, because your ECID is on that server. Now you can put your iPad in recovery mode to restore to OS 3.2.1

Thank you so much. I accidently upgraded my Ipad to 3.2.2 because I was having problems with Cydia, so I thought it would be easy to downgrade and start over. Well, next time I know better, it totally wiped out my jailbreak and I lost everything. I have spent more than 2 days trying to figure out how to downgrade back to 3.2, I searched youtube, google, etc. and finally stumbled upon your site this evening. and not my IPAD is in the process of being downgraded.
Thanks so much for this information.
Navigate to where?? It just says /etc I have no idea what that is! Please help!
Hello ,
just two questions. If I edit the host file (assuming my shsh is filed with cydia) do I still need to run tiny umbrella? I don’t think so as itunes is redirected to cydia. Correct?
I am going to buy a brand new ipad (more memory) is the next two weeks. My old one is registered with itunes. What happens if I connect the new one first time to itunes. Will it immediately download the new firmware. At that moment my ipad is not jb and no shsh filed with cydia. What is the best way for a brand new ipad?
Nope. Does not work.
My (jailbreakme 3.2.1 jail broken) iPad crashed and when I try to restore to 3.2.1 (doing the host hack 1st) (option-clicking on restore and selecting iPad1,1_3.2.1_7B405_Restore.ipsw) it did not work.
I had my SHSH files (Cydia was informing me (before the crash, that I want to recover) that “This device has SHSH on file for the OS 3.2.1″
I changed the host file (I even try to “ping gs.apple.com” and I got a response from 74.208.10.249, so the hosts hack was ok), then I run iTunes (9.2.1) and I got the hateful error message…
Any ideas?
And if I didn’t save my files to cydia server what can I do to downgrade to 3.2.1 from 3.2.2 beside waiting ?
I am ‘lucky’ to have recieved my Ipad a shipment to late; with 3.2.2. on it; pre-installed.
So I do not have prior version SHSH files. This means that I am not able to downgrade?
You end with “Now you can put your iPad in recovery mode to restore to OS 3.2.1″
No, no you can’t. Attempting to now do a restore makes iTunes come up with a dialog box saying it will restore the latest version, and then confirms that it is going to restore 3.2.2 (not 3.2.1) onto your ipad.
Your process will result in actually upgrading to 3.2.2.
If I’m not correct, please correct your steps to explain why this messaage comes up, and what to do about it.
I just wanna know, will there be a jailbreak released when the new iPad os is released, cause if not I dropped 500+ for nothing, please keep me updated!
What do you mean with… navigate to /etc… (for mac users)
thx in advance
it would be nice to explain where to locate the host file on mac os x no?
